Paintings 1987 – 2005

My paintings from 1987–2005 were usually "scenes". Some were still life scenes, but others were scenes, still life-like, that were complicated by my discovery that objects, animals, and landscape that usually do not exist together were inhabiting the same space, and that the scene was "believable".

I enjoyed painting multiple scenes in the same painting. I believe in the complications of life. As any of us opens the door to a room, walks into a party, looks out of the window or examines the kitchen table, we see multiple scenes with many interactions and contradictions, both physical and psychological. Each object, animal, or person that we observe has its own agenda and its own space. Representing these complications was a challenge that I loved.
